Dr. John Shufeldt, MD, JD, MBA, FACEP is a practicing emergency physician, serial entrepreneur, and Founding Fund Manager of Jetstream Venture Fund. As Managing Director of Xcellerant Ventures, John leads the firm’s mission to back transformative early-stage healthcare, life sciences, and technology companies. Through Jetstream—an innovative, actively managed interval fund—he is pioneering the democratization of venture capital, opening high-growth private market opportunities to everyday investors alongside institutional operators. Grounded in his conviction that clinicians and operators must actively shape the future of medicine, John combines deep clinical insight with investment discipline to identify, fund, and scale category-defining ventures.

With more than three decades of hands-on leadership at the intersection of medicine, law, business, and innovation, John brings a rare multi-disciplinary perspective to venture investing. Having founded, built, and successfully exited more than 15 companies—spanning national urgent care networks, pioneering virtual care platforms acquired by Fortune 50 health giants, and teleradiology enterprises—he evaluates prospective portfolio companies through the battle-tested lens of an operator. His ability to navigate complex regulatory pathways, anticipate shifting market dynamics, and pressure-test business models ensures that Jetstream backs founders equipped for sustainable commercial execution.

Beyond his investment track record, John is a central architect of the Southwest’s expanding health tech and medical innovation ecosystem. His landmark philanthropic investment established the LCME-accredited John Shufeldt School of Medicine and Medical Engineering at Arizona State University, welcoming its inaugural class of physician-engineers in Fall 2026 to bridge clinical delivery with technological innovation. Doug Sylvester, JD, LLM is a General Partner at Xcellerant Ventures and a Fund Manager at Jetstream Venture Fund, where he brings more than three decades of executive leadership at the intersection of law, technology, fund governance, and commercialization. As a seasoned legal strategist, former law school dean, and corporate advisor, Doug plays a pivotal role in shaping Jetstream’s fund structure, evaluating complex intellectual property, and establishing rigorous institutional governance across the portfolio. His long-term strategic perspective de-risks early-stage venture investments, helping portfolio founders transform high-potential technologies into defensible, scalable, and enduring market leaders.

Prior to his venture capital leadership, Doug spent more than a decade executing one of the most successful institutional transformations in modern legal education as Dean of the Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law at Arizona State University. Under his leadership, ASU Law achieved a top-25 national ranking—reaching #9 among public law schools—while expanding annual revenue from $14 million to over $50 million, growing the endowment by more than 5x, and transforming the program into a self-sustaining model without raising tuition. He raised more than $81 million in philanthropic support, securing 25 individual gifts of $1 million or more, and brought the flagship Beus Center for Law and Society to downtown Phoenix to serve as a regional hub for legal innovation and civic engagement.

Beyond his institutional legacy, Doug’s career has been continuously rooted in emerging technology, commercialization, and company building. A former global e-commerce practitioner at Baker McKenzie and Bigelow Fellow at the University of Chicago, Doug established one of the nation’s earliest Technology Ventures Clinics, giving founders direct access to legal, IP, and licensing strategy. He has represented and advised dozens of startups across technology and life sciences, co-founded the medtech startup ScripGuard, and earned recognition as a Phoenix Business Journal “Most Admired Leader”. Through his fund management and advisory roles, Doug remains a central catalyst in expanding Arizona’s venture ecosystem and guiding the next generation of high-growth enterprises.

Chris Yoo, PhD is a General Partner at Xcellerant Ventures and a Fund Manager at Jetstream Venture Fund, where he leads investment strategy and scientific evaluation across biotechnology, life sciences, artificial intelligence, and digital health. With more than 25 years of experience at the intersection of biomedical research and venture creation, Chris brings a rare ability to evaluate both the underlying science and the commercial viability of emerging healthcare technologies. At Jetstream, he applies his deep technical acumen to de-risk high-growth deep-tech investments, ensuring portfolio companies possess the defensibility, clinical relevance, and market positioning required to scale.

A prolific serial founder who has built 11 startups, Chris evaluates investment opportunities through the battle-tested lens of an operator who has repeatedly pioneered market categories ahead of the curve. His entrepreneurial track record includes co-founding Systems Imagination, a pioneer in AI-driven drug discovery that developed one of the first AI knowledge graphs, and co-founding computational cancer biotech Systems Oncology. Earlier in his career, he spearheaded personalized medicine strategy for IBM’s Information-Based Medicine division and founded MedTrust Online, the world’s first online expert community for oncologists, scaling it to more than 10,000 physicians worldwide prior to its acquisition. Having guided ventures from academic conceptualization through institutional funding and exit, Chris provides Jetstream founders with invaluable strategic counsel on intellectual property, translational research, and go-to-market execution.

Beyond his venture responsibilities, Chris serves as the ultimate bridge between academia, industry, and capital across the Southwest’s thriving innovation ecosystem. He is the CEO of Yoo & Co Accelerators, Regional Innovation Officer for the Medical Device Manufacturing Multiplier (MDM2) Consortium, and a member of the Flinn Biosciences Roadmap Steering Committee. Dedicated to empowering the next generation of bio-entrepreneurs, Chris teaches at Arizona State University and Grand Canyon University, mentors founders through ASU’s Venture Devils MedTech initiative, and actively invests through angel networks including Arizona Tech Investors, Canyon Angels, and InvestU. Mike Shufeldt, MBA is a General Partner at Xcellerant Ventures and a Fund Manager at Jetstream Venture Fund, where he oversees day-to-day fund operations, deal execution, and capital deployment. Focusing on early-stage opportunities across defense, aerospace, dual-use technologies, and health technology, Mike brings a disciplined, operator-first approach to Jetstream’s actively managed interval fund. His work bridges capital formation with hands-on operational leadership, helping democratize access to high-growth private market opportunities for everyday investors while supporting founders in highly regulated, technically complex markets.

Mike’s perspective as an investor was forged on the operating side first. Prior to managing venture capital investments, he directed operations at Find Urgent Care, scaling the healthcare startup through its acquisition. He subsequently led sales for Urgent Care Integrated Network and gained transaction experience in healthcare investment banking at Nexus Health Cap, before co-founding Ignite Healthcare Solutions, where he serves as CFO. As General Partner managing operations across Xcellerant and Jetstream, Mike evaluates prospective portfolio companies through the practical lens of someone who has bootstrapped, scaled, and exited businesses.

Complementing his commercial experience is a distinguished career in military aviation as a Major, A-10C fighter pilot, instructor pilot, and flight examiner in the U.S. Air Force. A combat veteran who flew more than 100 combat missions across Afghanistan and the Middle East, Mike served in key command roles—including Flight Commander and Chief of Scheduling—and continues to fly as an Air Force Reservist. His military background instills a high level of tactical discipline, risk management, and decision-making clarity under uncertainty, directly informing how Jetstream assesses leadership, team execution, and market adaptability.

Beyond his fund management responsibilities, Mike is deeply committed to strengthening the Southwest innovation ecosystem and supporting emerging founders. He serves on the Board of Directors for portfolio company Deeplook Medical, advises healthtech entrepreneurs through Arizona State University’s HEALab, and mentors founders in the W.P. Carey Startup Accelerator. Through his combined leadership across venture capital, entrepreneurship, and military service, Mike remains dedicated to building resilient companies and expanding access to high-impact private investments.
