Millions of patients with autoimmune disease still cycle through therapies that do not work well enough for them. Surf is pursuing a fundamentally different approach, using non-invasive ultrasound to activate the body’s own anti-inflammatory pathway without another drug or surgical implant

What they do.

Surf Therapeutics is developing a non-invasive ultrasound neuromodulation platform designed to treat chronic inflammatory disorders. Its broad-beam ultrasound technology stimulates the body’s cholinergic anti-inflammatory pathway, with the goal of reducing inflammation without drugs or implanted hardware and eventually enabling treatment from home.

Why we invested.

Surf stood out because it is pursuing a fundamentally different approach to autoimmune disease, using non-invasive neuromodulation rather than another pharmaceutical therapy. The technology grew out of Stanford research and has advanced into human clinical development, giving us both a differentiated scientific thesis and early evidence that the platform can move beyond the lab.
